Think how long it takes you to play a round. Yea, that's a nice little workout.

Water has so many therapeutic benefits and is a great alternative to high-impact cardio activities such as running.

Choosing healthy snacks is always a hot topic with clients, because this is often where we sabotage our efforts to eat healthy. The truth is that our society doesn't make it easy to be healthy - especially in the snack category. At practically every street corner it's easy to find cookies, chips, and ice cream. It's not so easy to find snacks that are made from whole foods (grains, nuts, vegetables, fruits, etc.)

I am one of those people who needs to eat several times throughout the day, and I have struggled at times with coming up with snacks that are healthy, tasty, and satisfying. My clients and I find that we are able to stay on track and have fewer cravings when we keep healthy options on hand (at home and work).

Here is a list of my favorite snacks:

~Greek Yogurt (I like Fage brand, with some fruit, honey, or agave nectar.)

~Hard Boiled Eggs with sea salt (Choose free range if possible.)

~Amy's Organic brand Frozen Burritos

~Amy's Organic brand Canned Soup (I like the heartier ones like split pea, lentil, and black bean.)

~Brown rice crackers with Guacamole

There is about 10 teaspoons of sugar in a can of cola.

Some fats are good in moderation and our body needs them. Omega-3 fats are essential to our bodies' function.

Good fats are found in Olive oil, Avocados, Nuts, Seeds and Fatty Fish.

Bad "Trans" fats are found in Commercially Baked Goods (pies, cakes, donuts, muffins), Margarine, Fried foods, Packaged snacks and Pre-mixed Cake Mixes etc. Avoid these altogether.

There are other fats that fit in between so limit them to very occasional use.

7. Exercise

Move more. Exercise boosts our metabolism and maintains our muscle strength and endurance. Exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes every day until it becomes a habit. Brisk walking is excellent exercise and can be done with a friend. Cycling and swimming are easy on the joints. If you enjoy company and classes try the gym. Strength training is great for building muscle which burns calories faster. Make sure you use correct technique to avoid injury. Don't worry about bulking up. This isn't possible without using extreme weights. Older people benefit greatly from a light weights program. It's always best to seek a doctors OK prior to starting a new exercise program.

8. Best Foods to Eat Are:


A good source of protein, lean meat and chicken, fish, eggs, lentils and beans.

These are empty calories.

If you must use salt, do it in moderation. The same goes for processed foods and artificial sweeteners like aspartame and the like. Think about it this way, basically you can eat anything that our ancestors could catch with a spear or pick from a tree or bush.

By eating a diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates and processed foods, your body will turn to burning fat for energy. This is because it will no longer rely on sugars, starches, and complex carbohydrates for energy.
